A new competition has been launched, “Delicia do Porto”, to find a cake or sweet to represent Porto and is open to pastry shops, bakeries, pastry chefs, associations, federations and also to interested individuals.

According to the organiser of the event, Olga Domingues, the idea for the competition first came about in December 2016, however it is only now that it has been launched with the closing date for entries announced as 17 May.

There is no limit on the number of applications that an individual can submit, however only 20 of the 100g sweets will be chosen to then move on to the next round.

In the second round, 10 finalists will be picked, all of which will demonstrate the essence of Porto and will all have a shelf life of at least three days.

These 10 finalists will then seen their sweets being available in a number of businesses to allow the people to then also be able to judge which is their favourite and which should ultimately be crowned the winner.

The competition is well worth entering as the first prize sweet maker will be awarded a cash prize of €10.000 as well as the honour of being recognised as an ambassador for the region.
