The DGPC said that “the RPI of the design for the Southern wing” of the station, which Time Out company said was to be expanded in line with the concept inaugurated with the Ribeira market in Lisbon.

The DGPC also said the UNESCO assessment was justified because São Bento is included on the list of Cultural Heritage in the historical centre of Porto, along with the Ponte Luiz I and the Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar, as well as being a “Public Interest property”, a classification that covers the “metal station, the glazed tile panels and the entrance to the tunnel”.
