Transmission rate at 0.97 between 12 and 16 July

The Minister of Health, Marta Temido, said on 20 July that the transmission rate (RT) of covid-19 was 0.97 between 12 and 16 July, considering that the risk is “on a downward trend”.

At the press conference on updating information regarding the covid-19 pandemic, which takes place at the Ministry of Health, in Lisbon, Marta Temido said that the latest figures calculated by the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge on the risk of transmission of disease show that the RT was 0.97 on 12-16 July.

The minister stated that "the true value" can vary between 0.96 and 0.99 and with a 95 percent confidence margin.

"The results indicate that the risk of transmission over time is on a downward trend at national level", she stressed.

According to Marta Temio, the total lethality rate in Portugal is 3.5 percent and above 70 years old it rises to 16 percent.
