Twenty-four reservoirs out of the 59 monitored had, at the end of May, water availability above 80 percent of the total volume, while nine had values below 40 percent, according to data from the National Water Resources Information Service (SNIRH).

On the last day of May, compared to the previous month, there was an increase in the volume stored in three hydrographic basins and a decrease in nine.

The Barlavento (31 percent) and Mira (48 percent) basins were those with the lowest water availability at the end of May, followed by Sado (49.5 percent) and the West (55.2 percent).

According to SNIRH data, the Tagus basins (89.1 percent), Mondego (88.9 percent), Lima (88.7 percent), Cávado (88.5 percent), Douro (81.7 percent) Ave (77.9 percent), Guadiana (66.4 percent) and Arade (60.2 percent) had the highest levels of storage at the end of May.

May 2020 storage by hydrographic basin was higher than the average for May (1990/91 to 2018/19), with the exception of the Mondego, Ribeiras do Oeste, Sado, Guadiana, Mira and Ribeiras do Algarve basins.

Each hydrographic basin can have more than one reservoir.
