“Uber reinforces its commitment to Portugal with the arrival of the service in Coimbra,” said a statement from the company, “the app now offers trips to more than 60 percent of the Portuguese population”, the largest service coverage in southern Europe.

The market in Coimbra is already well known to the company thanks to it operating Uber Eats, the food delivery service, in the city since November 2018.

Uber has guaranteed that the “expansion in to the city of Coimbra reinforces the operation in the country, bringing with it more economic opportunities for thousands of drivers.”

Currently Uber serves the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto, the Algarve region, Braga, Guimarães and is now in Coimbra. During the five years that the company has been operational in Portugal, the app has been downloaded more than two million times in the country.
