The mural was created by Rojo, an urban artist who collaborated with artist Hugo Lomas to create the striking piece which was an initiative of the local council in Guarda.

“The theme refers to the symbol of peacekeepers: a mythological phoenix that is there for the protection of humanity,” said the artist.
The mural, which is about 12 metres high and six metres wide, was painted over a week.

“The woman represents life, nature, the woods, humanity. The Gothic arch represents Guarda,” explained Victor Amaral from the local council.
“This is a work not only for the Bombeiros, but for the entire city,” said President Carlos Gonçalves.
