Vizela offers vaccination and electronic identification of pets

The Vizela Chamber will offer anti-rabies vaccination and electronic identification of pet animals for six months, the mayor told Lusa on 13 January.

According to Victor Hugo Salgado, the measure is already in force and is part of the programme "Vizela ProAnimal", responding to the new legal framework that requires, in particular, the identification of dogs up to one year old and cats up to three years.

The mayor hopes that this incentive for the county's families will help to identify more pet animals according to the legal framework, including stray animals.

In this sense, he stressed, the municipality will promote an awareness campaign in the local media.

To make the measure more effective, a local authority car, properly prepared for vaccination and placement of the electronic device in dogs and cats, will be at various points in different parishes once a month. And in the city area once a week, he said.

Vitor Hugo Salgado recalls, on the other hand, that, in this mandate, several measures have been taken by his executive in the area of ??treatment for stray animals, namely the acquisition of a vehicle for animal emergency, besides the adoption and vaccination campaigns, among others that intend to place Vizela as a national reference in this field.

The construction in the municipality of Vizela of equipment for dogs and cats, already underway, worth 260,000 Euros, plus VAT, is, signalled the mayor, one of the "most relevant actions", and it is expected that the work is completed in July.
