The Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA) is closing the Sociedade de Gestão Urbana (SGU), a company owned by the Municipality itself. The decision comes after SGU failed to return any net profit, accumulating debt for its third consecutive year, a situation that legally requires the Municipal enterprise to cease operations.

Conceição Cabrita, Mayor of VRSA, is focused on trying to ‘safeguard the jobs of almost one hundred workers, through their integration – and their respective duties – into the organic structure of the Municipality’.

The management of areas such as the Sports Complex, Municipal Pools, Historic Centre, commercial areas, and public spaces should now be transferred from SGU’s jurisdiction and into the hands of the Town Hall.
