The warning, in effect since 39 minutes past midnight, is in place in the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisboa, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Portalegre, according to a statement from IPMA.

Moderate to strong wind was expected with gusts that could, in most districts, reach speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour.

In some districts - Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra - winds may even reach 110 kilometres per hour, the yellow alert will be in place until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, said IPMA.

Yellow alerts are the third most serious, after red and orange, warning of "a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation" that requires "monitoring of the development of weather conditions."
