According to PJ, the fire was provoked by the detainee during an “apparent state of mental imbalance and marital disagreement.”

“The detainee triggered several ignition points, covering various pieces of furniture with gasoline that she was carrying in bottles” says the press release.

The PJ states that the interior of the residence was “seriously destroyed” underlining that, had it not been for the prompt intervention of third parties and the Lourosa Fire Department, the fire could have caused a complete destruction of the apartments and other dwellings in the building.

According to the PJ, the detainee suffered from third degree burns and had to be assisted by the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and was later interned in the Burns Unit of the Hospital Prelada, in Porto.
