The rehabilitation work includes the extension of the platform from 70 to 105 metres, in order to receive trains with six carriages, as well as the reformulation of the atriums and the introduction of lifts for access by people with reduced mobility.

Work began in July 2017, with completion scheduled for the first half of 2019.

However, in January 2019, the company terminated the contract with the contractor due to a delay in the works and launched a new tender in February.

On September 5, the company approved the award of this tender and referred the procedure on November 8, 2019 for prior approval by the Court of Auditors.

Lisbon Metro stresses that it will continue to "make every effort to ensure the conclusion of the extension and remodeling works of Arroios station within the planned timeframe".

The contract, worth €6.6 million, was awarded to Domingos da Silva Teixeira [DST]/Efacec - Engenharia e Sistemas, S. A. / DTE Instalações Especiais S.A./ CARI Construtores S. A.
