In the last few days, police have registered 475 road accidents as part of the ongoing "Safe Party 2019/2020" operation, which resulted in one dead, five seriously injured and 124 light injuries, according to provisional data released on Monday.

From 16 December to date and in relation to the same period last year, there is one less death, 10 less serious injuries and 236 less light injuries.

2,018 police and 555 vehicles are patrolling the roads and so far have inspected 5,947 vehicles, arrested 88 people, including 10 for driving with a blood alcohol level higher than 1.20 g/l, seven for driving without a license and nine for theft, and seized 740 doses of various drugs.

In a statement, the police “welcome the results obtained so far with regard to road safety, which show a substantial reduction in relation to the data for the year 2018, despite the difficult weather conditions of recent days".

Police urge drivers adapt the way they drive to weather conditions, reducing speed and increasing safety distance to the vehicle in front, not to drive if they have drunk alcohol and to follow the indications and advice of the police authorities.
