According to data released on Thursday to the Lusa agency, in the last 48 hours of operation "Christmas and New Year" there were no fatalities on the roads.

In the operation, which began on December 20 and ends next Sunday, the GNR inspected 56,946 vehicles by the end of Wednesday, and 475 were detected with a blood alcohol level considered a crime, ie equal to or higher than 1.2 gr / l.

The GNR registered 8,266 cases of speeding, 569 of mobile phone use and 438 violations for lack of use of seat belts and restraint systems.

GNR's "Christmas and New Year" operation began last December 20th, with a reinforcement of road patrols on the country's most trafficked roads to prevent accidents and ensure traffic fluidity.

About 4,600 GNR police from the National Traffic Unit and the Territorial Commands are involved daily. They are "particularly attentive" to speeding, dangerous manoeuvers, overtaking, changing direction and giving way, use of the mobile phone while driving, non-circulation in the far right lane on motorways and main and complementary routes and use of seat belts.
