Yolanda Sequeira is the new national surfing champion and also the winner of the MEO Surf 2019 League.

The Algarve surfer won the title early on Sunday during the Miss Active Cup, the fifth of six scoring stages for the award of the women´s national title exclusively dedicated to women´s surfing, which took place in Costa Nova, Ílhavo.

With rival Teresa Bonvalot absent, the 21-year-old Algarvian surfer kept the door open for her first career title, only needing to reach the end of this stage to rubber stamp the achievement.

“I´m super happy” Yolanda said after the competition ended. “I was hoping to hold the title already in this race and that, fortunately, happened. I feel sorry that some of the national tops like Teresa Bonvalot, Camilla Kemp or Carol Henrique were not present, but the surfers who came here competed at a very high level, as I had never seen before in national surfing,” stressed the first Algarve national surfing champion.

But the Algarve surfer did not just collect the national title, she also triumphed in the stage after beating Mafalda Lopes in the final. This was the fifth final in five stages and Yolanda´s third win of the season, having already won in Figueira da Foz and Porto.
