Zon Optimus becomes NOS

Following the merger last year between telecommunications company Optimus and internet and cable television provider Zon, the two companies have decided to create a single new brand.

“Today a new operator is born”, Miguel Almeida announced in unveiling the brand NOS.
The NOS SGPS Executive President stressed that Optimus and Zon customers “can be at ease as nothing will be changing for them. Rates and tariffs along with the contact they have had with the companies’ six thousand collaborators will remain unchanged.”
Mr Almeida however added that “we have not brought about this name change just for things to stay the same. Customers will see in the coming months and years a company which is very dynamic.”

While opting not to reveal the cost of this merger and rebranding exercise, Mr Almeida said that one billion euros had been set aside for investments in the coming five years.
Rebranding has already commenced at both Zon and Optimus stores across the country and is expected to be complete in the coming days.
The merger between Zon and Optimus happened at the beginning of 2013 when the boards of the two companies granted unanimous approval to the merger between the two telecommunications providers, with the company initially called Zon Optimus SGPS.
The operation attributed Zon with a value one and a half times greater than Optimus with the former due to issue shares equivalent to 40 percent of its value in exchange for acquiring the latter.
