The Algarve celebrates 2023 with celebrations across the region, with fantastic concerts and spectacular fireworks that are perfect for seeing in the New Year. The Portugal News has compiled seven locations where you can see the New Year in with family and friends, with most of these being free!


Lagos

Lagos is a great option to enjoy the New Year’s Eve festivities, kicking off the night at 10:30pm is live music from the famous Portuguese alternative rock band ‘The Gift’ at the iconic Praça do Infante. With almost three decades since their formation, they promise an incredible end to 2022. There will be a fireworks display at midnight and then the party continues with DJ Lighthouse taking to the stage. Considered by many as one of the best resident DJs in the Algarve and Alentejo, David Viana, also known as "Farol" or "Lighthouse", has a vast experience and a chameleonic style that will keep the party going until dawn. Portimão

Portimão celebrates the arrival of 2023 to the sound of Piruka on the 29th of December, Matias Damásio on the 30th of December and The Queen Greatest Tribute with Mercury Falls on the 31st of December, with all three concerts starting at 10pm at Zona Ribeirinha de Portimão. Additionally, on New Year’s Eve, DJ Cabeça will entertain Zona Ribeirinha de Alvor. The municipality of Portimão has pulled out all the stops with three locations to enjoy the fireworks at midnight, Praia da Rocha (Miradouro), Zona Ribeirinha de Portimão and Zona Ribeirinha de Alvor! Armação de Pêra

The Silves Municipal Council in collaboration with Armação de Pêra Parish Council brings a delightful New Year’s Eve party that you are not going to want to miss after a 2 year break due to the pandemic. On the 31st of December head down to Armação de Pêra’s Praia dos Pescadores, where the talented Algarvian band IRIS promises a memorable concert at 11pm. The first part of their concert will end just before the fireworks display, which will illuminate the unique bay of Armação de Pêra. Following this, IRIS will get back on stage performing until 1am, followed by DJ “Deejay G3” until 3am. This is a free event and for more information, please visit www.cm-silves.pt.



Albufeira

Albufeira Carpe Nox 2023 is back at Praia dos Pescadores at 10pm. Taking to the stage will be Rui Veloso, for a unique concert with a special line-up in store for this massive celebration. The “Father of Portuguese Rock” and Tatanka combine their talent in a performance unlike anything ever seen before. The countdown to midnight begins with DJ Gualter and will be complemented by aquatic musical fireworks show and aerial choreography by Skydive, with a light and fireworks show never before seen in Europe. Quarteira

Kicking off the celebrations in Quarteira is the Leça da Palmeira group, Expensive Soul at 10:30pm at Passeio das Dunas, with doors opening at 9:30pm. Expensive Soul are a renowned Portuguese band which will bring a fusion of sounds ranging from soul and reggae to R&B and hip-hop so you can dance the night away. Followed by a fireworks and music display at midnight and then a concert by Christian F at quarter past midnight to keep the festivities going. Best of all you can celebrate for free! Tavira

You can celebrate the New Year at Praça República in Tavira from 10:30pm with entertainment from the Rita Fox Band until the fantastic fireworks and music display come in at Ponte dos Descobrimentos (The Discoveries bridge). This will be followed by Portuguese soul and funk band HMB at Praça da República which will go on until 01:30am where DJ Di Angelo will take over to keep the celebrations rolling into the night. Vila Real de Santo António

Monte Gordo celebrates the arrival of 2023 on 30 and 31 December with a New Year's Eve programme for the whole family, with plenty of music and spectacular fireworks. With free entrance, this year's New Year's Eve programme will revive the music, sounds and styles of the 90s. In Monte Gordo, the festivities will start on the 30th of December, at Avenida Marginal, with the band "La Plante Mutante" and the project "Alpha Heroes".

On New Year’s the night of São Silvestre starts with the dance sounds of "Duo Reflexo" at 10pm. Followed by Revenge of the 90’s which will go into the early hours, which is much more than a 90s party but a time machine, the presence of Batatinha & Companhia and Melão has already been confirmed. At midnight the Monte Gordo beach will be lit up with a magnificent firework display to celebrate the New Year in the best way.

In addition to Monte Gordo, the last night of the year will also be marked in Vila Real de Santo António, in Praça Marquês de Pombal, between 10 pm and 3 am, to the rhythms of "Cookie Monsters" and the beats of "DJ Jonny V".
