According to the president of Special Olympics Portugal, António Marques, the athletes will represent the national colours “in what is considered the biggest world event of adapted sport”.

700 athletes from 170 countries will be in the competition and Portugal will compete in athletics, basketball, horse riding, futsal, rhythmic gymnastics, golf, swimming, and table tennis.

"The Portuguese delegation will consist of 56 elements, made up of 39 athletes, two partners, 12 technicians, a doctor and two delegates", said António Marques.

The Special Olympics movement has existed since 1968 (since 2001 on Portuguese soil) and Portugal participated in the World Games Dublin2003, Shanghai2007, Athens2011, Los Angeles2015 and Abu Dhabi2019.
