According to the DGS epidemiological bulletin, 58 patients are admitted to intensive care, two more than on Wednesday.

As for the admissions in infirmary, official data indicate that 208 patients are hospitalised today, three less.

The death occurred in the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley.

The data also show that there was an increase of 104 active cases of infection, now totalling 22,193.

Since the start of the pandemic Portugal has recorded 843,729 confirmed cases of infection by the new coronavirus and 17,014 deaths.

The number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities has risen by 207 to 18,620.

The data also reveals that 346 people have been reported recovered, bringing the total number since the start of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020 to 804,522.

According to the DGS, Portugal has 4,673,916 people vaccinated against Covid-19, of which 1,417,264 are already immunised with both doses.

The transmissibility index (Rt) of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus is 1.02, while the incidence of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days is 51.4.

Rt and incidence data are updated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 159 new infections have been reported, counting 318,707 cases and 7,211 deaths so far.

The Northern region now has 172 new SARS-CoV-2 infections, totalling 338,847 cases of infection and 5,351 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

These two regions account for 73.3 percent of the total number of new infections in the last 24 hours.

In the Centre region, 59 more cases were recorded, accumulating 119,410 infections and 3,019 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 10 more cases were reported, totalling 30,014 infections and 971 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's bulletin reveals that 18 cases were recorded, accumulating 22,080 infections and 362 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira has counted 11 new cases, adding 9,538 infections and 68 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now has 22 new cases and has counted 5,133 cases and 32 deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the DGS.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira release their data daily, which may not coincide with the information released in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 383,184 men and 460,192 women in Portugal, DGS data show, according to which there are 353 cases of unknown gender, which are under investigation as this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatalities, 8,938 were men and 8,076 women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,183 were people aged over 80, 3,627 were aged between 70 and 79, and 1,529 were aged between 60 and 69.

The pandemic caused at least 3,419,488 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 164.8 million cases of infection, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
