"That it can happen again, it can. That it is likely, no. It is very unlikely", said the head of the Meteorological Forecast and Surveillance division of the IPMA.

The municipality of Porto registered, on Saturday, in less than two hours, 150 requests for help because of the flooding in houses and public roads, mainly downtown, a source from the local Civil Protection told Lusa.

The floods also caused damage to some houses in the Fontainhas area.

"It is enough to be just 10 kilometres to the north that the weather would not have the same effect", explained the official to Lusa, commenting that the phenomenon occurred "almost at the 'right' point, where it could happen" to cause flash floods.
