According to data from the Energy Services Regulatory Entity (ERSE), both 95 petrol, simple diesel and auto LPG were below the prices practiced in Spain between October and December last year, before including the tax burden.
As regards the average selling price (ARP) without taxes of straight 95 gasoline, this was 3.7 cents per litre (cent/l) cheaper than the price in Spain. But adding the tax burden of 48%, “the highest in the context of the Iberian Peninsula”, indicates ERSE, this raises the price of simple gasoline by 1.9 cents/l compared to Spain.
Therefore petrol with taxes was on sale for 1.727 euros per litre in Portugal, while in Spain it was 1.708 euros per litre. Without taxes, the price at national level dropped to 0.902 euros per litre and in Spain it stood at 0.939 euros per litre.
Compared to the rest of the European Union, national average prices are higher, placing Portugal in 11th position of countries with the highest prices.
As for diesel, the national average price is, without taxes, 3.8 cents/l cheaper compared to Spain. A situation that still exists when adding on taxes, which in Portugal weigh 37% and in Spain 38%, “which contributes to the practice of lower PMV in our country”, explains ERSE.
Therefore diesel with taxes was on sale for 1.761 euros per litre in Portugal, while in Spain it was 1.842 euros per litre. Without taxes, the price at national level dropped to 1.105 euros per litre and in the neighbouring country it stood at 1.143 euros per litre.
In relation to the rest of the European bloc, with taxes, Portugal has the eighth cheapest price of simple diesel, and without taxes it drops to 11th position.
