An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 on the Richter scale was recorded, at 9:59 pm on Saturday (21 January), off Vila Real de Santo António, in the Algarve, according to information provided by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The epicentre of this quake was located around 30 kilometres south-southeast of the Algarve region.

The earthquake was felt with maximum intensity II, on the modified Mercalli scale, in the municipalities of Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António.

According to the information provided by the IPMA, there is no information that points to the seismic event having caused any personal or material damage.
