The municipality stated that the preliminary study was approved this week, and the council has authorised the launch of a public tender for the design and construction of the facility. Once the contract is awarded, the execution period for the project is expected to last two years.

The future pavilion will serve a wide range of purposes, accommodating sports events, congresses, assemblies, exhibitions, fairs, entertainment shows, musical concerts, and other public and cultural activities. Designed as a covered space, it will have the capacity to host more than 3,500 people, offering a modern and versatile venue for both local and regional use. Additionally, the project includes a parking area with approximately 180 spaces to support event logistics and visitor convenience.

According to the municipality, the facility is considered “of public interest” and will play an important role in meeting the collective needs of the community. The council emphasised that this multifunctional infrastructure will enhance Barcelos’ capacity to organise and attract large-scale events, boosting the city’s cultural, social, and economic vitality. The new pavilion is expected to become a key venue in the region, offering a flexible space that supports a variety of public uses while contributing to the development and modernisation of urban infrastructure.
