According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), 43.5% of the population residing in Portugal were single in 2021 (an increase of three percentage points in 10 years), while 41% have a married status, which translates into a decrease of 5.6 percentages points compared to 2011 (46.6%).

In turn, the divorced population increased in the last decade by 2.4 percentage points and surpassed for the first time the widow population, which remained almost unchanged between 2021 and 2011: 7.5% and 7.3%, respectively.
