Since August 30, 2020, Portugal has not registered such a low number of deaths related to Covid-19, with no deaths recorded in mainland Portugal. The recorded death occurred in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

Today's data reveal, however, an increase in the number of hospitalisations both in the wards and in intensive care units.

Today Portugal has 454 patients in wards, 26 more compared to Sunday, and 112 in intensive care, three more.

According to the bulletin released today, since the beginning of the pandemic Portugal has already accounted for 831,221 confirmed cases and 16,946 deaths.

As for the number of new cases, today's values ​​are similar to those recorded in recent weeks, with daily fluctuations.

The data also reveal that 547 people were reported to have recovered, bringing the total number to 789,216 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, in March 2020.

According to the latest data from DGS, Portugal currently has 2,586,728 people vaccinated against covid-19, of which 652,874 are already immunized with both doses.

The transmissibility index (Rt) of the new coronavirus in Portugal has dropped to 1 today, while the incidence of cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days has risen to 71.8, according to the data released today.

The previous numbers of these indicators, released on Friday, pointed to a national Rt of 1.05 and an incidence of 71.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Rt and incidence data are updated on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 56 new infections were reported, accounting for 314,733 cases and 7,185 deaths so far.

The North region has 97 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already counted 333,832 cases of infection and 5,330 deaths.

In the Centre region, there were 24 more cases, accumulating 118,149 infections and 3,006 deaths.

In the Alentejo, nine more cases were reported, totalling 29,568 infections and 970 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's bulletin reveals that five new cases were registered, with 21,391 infections accumulating and 356 deaths.

In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, 15 new cases were registered, accounting for 8,994 infections and 68 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

Today, the Azores have 14 new cases and account for 4,554 cases and 31 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DGS.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira disclose their data on a daily basis, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 376,984 men and 453,935 women in Portugal, according to DGS data, according to which there are 302 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total fatalities, 8,903 were men and 8,043 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.
