Brisa, the franchisee, said that it would take six or seven weeks to make repairs to the road after the collapse and to then reopen the motorway to traffic again.
Part of the A14 road surface disappeared into a crater without causing any victims or damage to vehicles, and traffic was limited initially to a single carriageway in one direction. Later inspection of the road by engineers led to the complete closure of the motorway to all traffic for safety reasons.
Those looking for an alternative to the A14 would usually use the EN 111, however this road is no longer an alternative as works on the road to create drainage channels have left it closed, leaving just secondary roads for travellers to use.
