In total 1,335 children donated food goods to the Existir Association, a non-profit organisation based in Loulé which helps the region’s disabled and needy families.
The ‘Help Us Fill A Plate’ initiative was launched by Vilamoura Marina and saw young children from 48 different school classes adhere to the appeal.
“Through this initiative the Existir Association will make Christmas dinner a much happier affair for these families”, said Luís Martins, head of the association.
As a treat the children were invited to welcome Father Christmas to the town after he sailed into the Marina by boat.
Paul Taylor, CEO of Vilamoura World which manages the resort, expressed his delight at the response to the appeal as well as “the continuity of Vilamoura’s efforts in these initiatives, which translates into increased well-being and comfort of the people of the region, and in particular these families with difficulties.”
The campaign will run until 20 December and donations of basic essential foodstuffs such as milk, rice, sausages, tinned fish, cereals and flour, can be dropped off at Vilamoura Marina’s security office.
