The move comes after the Fectrans union on Wednesday morning held a meeting of its members to debate the move.

In comments to Lusa News Agency, Anabela Cavalheira said those attending had decided to schedule another strike, given the attitude of the company's management.

"In mid-January we asked the board for a meeting and so far we've had no response," she said, explaining that the subject the union wanted to discussed relating not to pay but to operational matters: specifically working hours and holidays, and what she alleged is the company's failure to implement certain clauses in the collective employment agreement.

A company official declined to comment on the announcement.
