A United Nations initiative, the conference aims to debate the future and sustainability of the world’s seas, with the 193 participating countries undertaking to adopt new policies at the end of it.
Portugal’s Minister for the Seas, Ana Paula Vitorino, has said Lisbon would like to organise and stage the next event, in 2020.
