After the participation of the Municipality of Lousã in the project “Preserve Nature”, promoted by E-REDES, the municipality received 40,000 indigenous trees, which will be planted in the municipality until November 2021.

The municipality of Lousã will receive 15,000 cork oaks, 12,500 arbutus trees and 12,500 Portuguese oaks, in order to “re-plant Lousã”.

The launch of the project was marked with the planting of a tree in the Urban Park and “several letters of commitment signed” with the parish councils of the municipality (Serpins, Lousã and Vilarinho, Gândaras, Foz de Arouce and couple of Ermio), with the Board of Directors of the Baldios of the Extinta Parish of Vilarinho, Lousã, Candal, Cerdeira and Catarredor, which will take over the planting of trees offered by E-REDES.

“These agreements aim to make the entire planting and monitoring process for species more effective and efficient”, says that municipality in the district of Coimbra.

The plantations will be visited, on 23 November, on Autochthonous Forest Day.

The initiative had a budget of €250,000, with the municipalities being “selected according to the decision of a jury made up of E-REDES and the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests”.

The initiative makes a “relevant contribution to the biodiversity recovery and mitigation of climate change”.
