In May 2022, Taylor emerged victorious against Serrano by a split decision in the first women's boxing match to be featured at Madison Square Garden. The battle was held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Dallas Cowboys of the NFL play in this stadium.

Sports Illustrated's bout of the Year and The Ring's Event of the Year for 2022 went to their first bout.

Serrano was forced to withdraw from the fight due to injury, but the two were scheduled to rematch in May 2023 in Ireland.

In addition, Taylor will be fighting for the first time since defeating Chantelle Cameron by majority decision at the 3Arena, which served as retaliation for her lone career loss.

In her most recent bout, Amanda Serrano prevailed via majority decision against her obligatory WBO opponent Danila Ramos, creating history in the process by being the first woman to win a unified world title over twelve rounds of three minutes, the same length as a men's championship battle.

Although it had been hoped that Taylor's next bout would take place in Croke Park, Eddie Hearn's remarks had made it seem doubtful.

Dana White intimated over the weekend that the UFC will be the first combat sports event to take place at the Sphere in Las Vegas, while there was also conjecture that this bout may happen there.

Serrano is stepping up from featherweight, and Taylor is defending his Super Lightweight titles in this fight.

Netflix will broadcast the bout live.

“This is the rematch the world has wanted to see, and I’m delighted that it’s finally happening,” said Katie Taylor. “The first fight in New York was obviously an epic occasion and it more than lived up to the billing, and I’m sure the rematch will be no different.

“I want to thank Matchroom and DAZN for their help in making the fight possible and I’m looking forward to defending my titles as Undisputed World Champion in Dallas on Saturday, July 20th.”
