ZERO said in a communiqué that “it is neither for nor against any of the possible locations” for the new airport, either in Montijo or Alcochete, but it did say that it demanded there was a proper Strategic Environmental Evaluation.

“ZERO wants a strategic discussion and not illegal, precipitated decisions with serious damage for the local inhabitants and the environment”, it said.

On 21 August, the association sent a complaint to the European Commission against the Portuguese state because of the construction of the new airport, warning about the need to conduct more exhaustive and rigorous studies.

As regards the Lisbon + Montijo option, ZERO said the current Lisbon airport did not comply with the noise limits set by domestic legislation or those recommended by the World Health Organisation.
