The launch event is to take place on Sunday at 4pm in Santarém, at the National Centre of Agricultural Exhibitions and Markets.
Last week, Santana Lopes announced his intention to stand in the leadership election that is to take place on 13 January, with all party members having a vote. He made the announcement on television, during his regular commentary spot on the SIC channel.
As well as prime minister from 2004 to 2005, Santana Lopes has been the PSD leader, and mayor of Lisbon and of Figueira da Foz. He is currently head of the state-owned but autonomous social services organisation, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.
The PSD’s current leader, Pedro Passos Coelho, announced earlier this month that he would not be standing again as leader, following poor results for the party in local elections on 1 October.
