Head of Portugal’s Doctors’ Board says operating room strike is ‘extreme’, but ‘working conditions are inadmissible’.

The head of Portugal’s Doctors’ Board has said a prolonged strike in operating rooms planned to start next week is an extreme measure, but that their working conditions are inadmissible.

The strike will be the first of its kind, according to the Boards’ ombudswoman Ana Rita Cavaco. Two nurses unions have called for strike action lasting over a month in operating rooms at five of the country’s largest hospitals, starting next Thursday, 22 November.
