This year’s event is taking place at a new venue, the renovated Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, in the Eduardo VII park in central Lisbon.

The first show is to be that of Patrick de Pádua, at 4pm, followed by that of Duarte (by Ana Duarte); both are part of the LAB design platform. These first two shows are to take place in the garden surrounding the pavilion and are open to the public.

The rest of the collections are then to be shown indoors, where only invited guests are admitted, starting with collections from the Sangue Novo (New Blood) competition, in which final-year students in fashion design at Portuguese and foreign colleges and designers just starting out on their career are taking part. This year’s young competitors include Alexandre Pereira, Carla Campos, Daniela Pereira, David Pereira, Federico Cina, Filipe Augusto, Ivan Almeida, Rita Afonso, Rita Carvalho and Rita Sá.

Also on Friday collections by some established designers are to be shown: Kolovrat, Valentim Quaresma and Ricardo Preto.

In addition to the two opening shows, from 4 to 8pm the general public will be able to gain access to a ‘Wonder Room’ – a pop-up store in which 18 Portuguese brands and designers will be showing their output in areas such as crafts, textile, jewellery, clothing, accessories and lifestyle. Some live events are also planned in this space.

The public may also visit three exhibitions in the pavilion: of photograpy, Portuguese footwear, and textiles.

ModaLisboa runs to Sunday, with the overall theme of ‘Light’.
