The arrests were made on Wednesday evening following searches carried out by PJ police on the suspects’ homes and at the town hall. The women, both building inspectors, aged 41 and 54, are accused of accepting bribes and were arrested as part of an investigation named ‘Extranumerário’.
In a statement the PJ said: “two women have been detained for using their professional capacity to receive cash payments from third parties for the practice of acts contrary to their functional duties.”
They were remanded in custody and were due to be brought before a judge on Friday.
