The head of the Portuguese Association of Public Transport and Road Transport of Goods (ANTRAM) told Lusa News Agency that many Portuguese trucks had been forced to a halt due to the protest.
Thousands of people took to the streets in France blocking roads to protest against high fuel prices. Wearing high-visibility jackets, they have been referred to as the “yellow vests.” Over 400 people were injured in the protests organised in France, according to the French interior minister.
In Portugal, national carriers are meanwhile demanding better working conditions and lower fuel prices, according to the head of ANTRAM.
The association’s leader also said members of the National Association of Portuguese Carriers (ANTP) had met with the secretary of state for infrastructure, Guilherme W. d’Oliveira Martins, to talk about problems faced by the sector.
