On Thursday the country's road hauliers' association, ANTRAM, and the union of drivers of lorries carrying hazardous materials reached an agreement which put an end to the strike that kicked off on Monday.

Costa said that throughout the crisis the government had "created the conditions" for both parties to sit and negotiate to resolve the conflict peacefully.

The strike led the government to declare an energy crisis, with drivers forming long queues at petrol stations across the country, and some even crossing into Spain.
