According to consumer rights watchdog DECO, a total of 460,000 complaints were logged during the course of 2016. Telecommunications was once again the main source of consumer grievances, with one in ten being directed at this sector. Overall, complaints were down sharply last year when compared to 2015, which the consumer watchdog says was due to an unusual number of complaints directed at energy and water suppliers that year.
In a separate story, DECO has warned internet surfers to be wary about shopping online and via Facebook.
The watchdog said it has received a growing number of complaints in recent years about online purchases, namely through social media sites.
Last year almost 460,000 Portuguese citizens made a complaint to DECO, about issues ranging from telecommunications to unfair commercial practices.
