The first ever Platinum Awards for International Ibero-American Cinema Awards was held last year in Panama City, Panama and was created to become a leading global event in support of the Ibero-American film industry.
This year the Portuguese movies ‘Os Gatos Não Têm Vertigens’ (loosely translated as ‘Cats Don’t Have Vertigo’), by director António Pedro Vasconcelos, and ‘E Agora, Lembra-Me’ (‘And now, Remind Me’), directed by Joaquim Pinto, were both on a list of pre-nominations.
While ‘Os Gatos Não Têm Vertigens’ is among the pre-nominees in the best movie (MGN Filmes/Tino Navarro), best director (António Pedro Vasconcelos), best main actress (Maria do Céu Guerra) and best script (Tiago Santos) categories, ‘E Agora, Lembra-Me’ has been put forward to be in the running for Best DocumentaryFilm.
The five final nominees from each category will be revealed at the end of May, ahead of the gala ceremony which this year will be held in Marbella, Spain, on 18 July.
The event will be hosted by American actress and singer-songwriter Alessandra Rosaldo and Colombian journalist Juan Carlos Arciniegas, who currently presents CNN’s daily celebrity entertainment programme Showbiz. Both movies won awards in the Portuguese Cinema Academy’s Sophia Prizes 2015, last month.
