The UN general secretary is going to be in Portugal on Thursday and Friday upon the invitation of Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and is going to meet with the prime minister, António Costa, and foreign minister, Augusto Santos Silva.

After the meeting with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the president is going to offer Ban Ki-moon an award and lunch at the presidential palace.

In the conversations with the Portuguese leaders, one of the topics of conversation is going to be former Portuguese prime minister António Guterres’ candidacy for the top UN slot, since Ban Ki Moon is going to step down from the post he has held for 10 years at the end of 2016.
