Zero defends aviation fuel tax in Portugal to reduce emissions

Environmental association Zero has today criticised the tax exemptions of the aviation sector in Portugal.

The association said a fuel tax would reduce traffic and emissions by 11 percent and provide €500 million in annual revenue.

Speaking to Lusa News Agency Francisco Ferreira, president of Zero, said that while “aviation emissions increased seven percent in Portugal in the last year”, in a European context,

Portugal imposes “the fewest taxes on aviation”, despite being one of the fastest-growing markets.
