The ‘EuroWorkshop’ on lithium resources in Portugal is being organised by the Portuguese Geologists Association, in collaboration with the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (IPG) and the European Federation of Geologists (EFG).
According to organisers, the initiative intends “to show the important role that Portugal can have in research and prospecting as well as the possible exploitation of lithium on a global scale”.
Among the various topics to be addressed, the IPG said, are “the main lithium occurrences already known in Portugal, legal aspects associated with requests for prospecting and research and mining, the role of industrial mineral extraction companies, technological advances related to their mineral and metallurgical processing and the environmental impact related to prospecting and exploitation.”
The event is also to include study visits to lithium extraction sites currently active in the Guarda region, and to ancient tin, feldspar and quartz mines in the Viseu region that are to be researched and prospected for lithium.
