The institute listed as at 'maximium' risk Monchique (Faro), Mação and Sardoal (Santarém), Vila de Rei and Oleiros (Castelo Branco), Pampilhosa da Serra, Arganil and Góis (Coimbra), Sabugal, Guarda, Celorico da Beira, Fornos de Algodres, Aguiar da Beira and Trancoso (Guarda), and Sernancelhe and Moimenta da Beira (Viseu).

Numerous other municipalities in all districts in mainland Portugal are at 'very high' and 'high' risk.

The risk of fire as calculated by IPMA has five levels, from ‘reduced' to 'maximum'. The classification is based on values observed at 1pm each day, relative to air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the quantity of precipitation in the previous 24 hours.
