According to information available on the ANSR website, up to 31 March, 113 people died on Portuguese roads, 15 more than in the same period of last year.

The authorities recorded 31,916 accidents in the first three months of the year, 1,683 more than in the year-ago period, 373 serious injuries (59 fewer) and 9,041 minor injuries (173 more).

According to ANSR, Setúbal was the district with the most fatalities (21) on the roads this year, followed by the districts of Porto and Lisbon (13 each). The district of Portalegre was the only one that did not register any deaths in road accidents.

In terms of accidents, the district with the highest number in the first quarter of the year was Lisbon (6,584), followed by Porto (5,978), Aveiro (2,783) and Braga (2,763).

ANSR figures also showed that in the last 12 months (between 1 April, 2017 and 31 March, 2018), road accidents killed 525 people, 92% more year-on-year, and 2,126 serious injuries (49 more).

The figures from the ANSR are related to deaths recorded at the sceneof the accident or on the way to the hospital.
