"My character is a little different from the original; she's a little more modern," said the model and actress in an interview with Lusa, noting that Eve was created for Richard Donner's "Superman" films, produced between 1978 and 1980.

"She seems to have an almost childlike essence, very pure," described Sara Sampaio, who wanted to convey "that amazement that children have for everything—it's fantastic, everything is new, and everything is beautiful."

To prepare, Sara Sampaio watched versions of Eve previously played by Valerie Perrine and Andrea Brooks and fell in love with the character.

The audience's first impression of Eve Teschmacher is that she is superficial, a digital influencer with "the best outfits in the movie," who is uninterested in the consequences of what billionaire Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) is doing.

However, the character will acquire key importance as the story unfolds and show that she has more layers than she initially showed.

"What I like most about Eve is the fact that she can be superficial. I think people don't have to be just one thing," emphasised Sara Sampaio. "She may like pretty things and pink, but that doesn't mean she's a brainless person who doesn't know what she's doing."

Her frivolous appearance ends up being a form of protection, the actress considered. "What she wants most in life is security, and Lex Luthor obviously gives her that, with his power and money," she indicated. "But the moment she feels that security is at risk, she has a backup plan: to take care of herself."

"Superman" is one of Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios' biggest bets for this year, and a gigantic production from director James Gunn, with an estimated budget of $225 million (close to €192 million).

This film is also a big opportunity for Sara Sampaio to break into Hollywood, after sporadic appearances in smaller productions such as Jonah Feingold's "At Midnight" and Nicholas Jarecki's "Crisis." Sampaio has also worked with directors such as Bruno Gascon, on the film "The Cargo" and the series "Sombra - Uma Mãe Sabe," broadcast on RTP, and Francisco Froes, on the short film "Silence," in which he starred.

"This is obviously a dream," she declared, calling the experience on "Superman" "incredible" and far beyond her expectations.

"Superman," which director James Gunn called "a love letter to comics," opens today in more than three dozen Portuguese theaters.

The superhero appeared in 1938, in the original comic book by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and made his big screen debut ten years later, directed by Spencer Gordon Bennett and Thomas Carr, paving the way for sagas, with their sequels and new versions.
