Man arrested on a European warrant for human trafficking
A 30 year old foreign man is being held in preventive detention after being arrested in Lisbon following a European arrest warrant for crimes of trafficking of human beings.
According to the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis), the detainee is also associated with money laundering and criminal association.
In statement, Cometlis said that this criminal activity took place between 2018 and 2019, mainly in Aveiro and Coimbra.
“Alerted to the risk of being arrested, the man decided to move out of Portugal. Thus, and in possession of more information, it was possible to locate and detain the suspect”, said the police.
PSP said that there was information that pointed to the temporary trafficking of people to Portugal, particularly in the metropolitan area of Lisbon.
The detainee was present at the Court of Aveiro - Central Instance 1st Criminal Section, for the application of a coercive measure, which was the preventive detention.
If this 30 year old foreign man is found guilty of his crime(s), he should never see the light of day outside prison walls for the rest of his life. Human trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes that can be committed.
