According to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), domestic travel decreased by 35.7 percent and travel abroad decreased by 78.1 percent (after increases of 9 percent and 24.7 percent, respectively, in 2019).
Considering only the fourth quarter of 2020, according to the INE, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of more restrictive measures on circulation, especially in the months of November and December, continued to be felt in the number of trips made, with residents in Portugal making 2.3 million trips, which corresponded to a year-on-year decrease of 57.4 percent.
Excellent news in the war against unneccessary carbon footprints destroying our homeland.

This decrease due to internal travel resticitons is opposite to what happened in many other countries. Where the focused on rules for external travelling and border control.
There the domestic activities went up. If if it were not so much related to the travel itself. But what you did. Camping in your own country. Boat trips onlakes. Hikinging the nature.....
But Portugal has a strange view. They first forbid internal travelling. E.G takaing a solo trip on a motorcycle. To and empty place at the coast. But now open up for external tourist to fill the beaches, restaurants, pool areas, bars,pubs.... and share viruses
This was not OK.
