The study “Where do Companies Want to Be?”, by the international real estate consultancy Savills, which analyses the performance of the occupational office market in the last five years, found that companies have their sights set on Lisbon, according to a report by idealista.

For Alexandra Portugal Gomes, Head of Research at Savills Portugal, there is no doubt: “Lisbon is a complete city, increasingly international, supported by an incredible set of attractive factors, which allow all market areas to end up being feasible choices, depending on the occupant profile.

According to Savills, which is supported by the European Innovation Index, Lisbon is in 12th place in the table of the most innovative cities in the European Union (EU).

“Currently, around 354,000 companies are headquartered in Lisbon and that is where the largest number of workers from foreign companies in the technology sector are concentrated”, reveals the consultant in a statement.

Foreign companies

The economic recovery makes it possible to foresee the arrival of new foreign companies in Portugal, and Lisbon should be at the top of the list of preferences, with new projects coming to the market.

Among the factors that contribute to this phenomenon are also environmental policies, which place Lisbon at the forefront of business choices, having been named European Green Capital in 2020, for having significantly reduced CO2 emissions and water consumption, and Mobility – Lisbon has a robust public transport network, as well as alternative and shared means of transport that allow it to respond to the core needs of employees, such as the ease and speed of access to the workplace.

The “progressive recovery of the national economy” is also important to attract investors, namely in the office segment, which in January 2022 recorded a take-up volume of more than 13,000 square meters (m2), a very significant increase compared to the approximately of 2,000 m2 in the corresponding month of 2021. The economic recovery makes it possible to foresee the arrival of new foreign companies in Portugal, and Lisbon should be at the top of the list of preferences, with new projects coming to the market, says Savills.
