After 37 years of service, Dobson currently hosts RTÉ Radio's News at One.
Since joining the national broadcaster in 1987, Dobson has hosted all of RTÉ's flagship news programmes on radio and television. She has also served as anchor for coverage of special State events and elections.
"The time has come to move on after 37 fantastic years with RTÉ," Dobson stated in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon. Working with some incredibly talented and dedicated coworkers will be missed.
"RTÉ journalism is a team sport, and I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best."
"I am also appreciative of the viewers and listeners who have supported me over the years with their time and attention. With reporting that was truthful, impartial, and relevant, I hope to have earned back their trust."
According to Kevin Bakhurst, director general of RTÉ, Dobson "represents the best in public service journalism".
He has lent a composed authority to the most significant tales for many years. He consistently exhibits a breadth of expertise, complete honesty in his work, and an unwavering courage to take on the most difficult tasks and hold the powerful people accountable.
"It has been an honour and a pleasure to work with him personally," Mr. Bakhurst continued.
In 1987, Dobson began working for the broadcaster as a correspondent for RTÉ Radio 1's This Week show. Subsequently, he was named RTÉ's business correspondent and started hosting Marketplace, a business programme.
He started hosting the One O'Clock News in 1991. He then moved on to host the Nine O'Clock News, and in 1996 he became the anchor of the Six One News.
After 21 years of service at the flagship programme, he joined Morning Ireland's presenting team in 2017.
