Obtaining these distinctions required ensuring distinctive principles. To recognize the winner of the Superyacht Marina of the Year award, criteria such as the quality of customer service and facilities for large boats, such as fuelling stations, security, parking, maintenance spaces, and social areas, were evaluated. The most relevant criteria include minimizing environmental impact, waste treatment, energy efficiency, and the use of renewable energy; marine conservation; environmental certifications; sustainability initiatives; and involvement with the local community.

This distinction is awarded by The Yacht Harbour Association, and the award ceremony took place during the prestigious Southampton International Boat Show, reinforcing the international recognition of Vilamoura Marina's excellence.

Under the Gold Anchor program, Vilamoura Marina holds the highest distinction—5 Golden Anchor Platinum—achieved in 2023, joining a very select group of only 11 international marinas that share this prestigious status.
